Sexual problems

Sexual problems such as impotence, diminished arousal, or pain during sexual intercourse may be associated with MS. Loss of sensitivity in women or difficulty maintaining an erection in men can also be related to MS. There are sometimes also psychological problems, which may trigger problems in intimacy as well.

Managing sexual problems

Many couples have found a way to have a normal love life and they communicate with each other, so “MS does not have a chance to crawl into bed with them“.

Talking about one’s role in the relationship and what each partner expects of the other seems to be the key to mastering many problems.

For men, a number of effective medications and aids are available. Women experiencing a lack of vaginal lubrication can use lubricating agents to decrease the discomfort of vaginal dryness.

There are also a number of sexual aids available that do not require a physician's prescription, for example strap-on, battery-operated vibrators. Please ask your doctor for additional advice.
